SOCIAL INTEGRATION FOR NEW CANADIANS

According to Statistics Canada, in 2011, Muslims represented almost 8% of Toronto’s population. This year, they will be approximately 10%. As the fastest growing religious group, they are projected to be more than 12% by 2036. Recent data puts the number of Muslims in the Greater Toronto Area at more than 600,000. Many recent immigrants and refugees have made Toronto their new home.
With the exponentially-increasing Muslim population, novel solutions are needed. Gaps in services in the understanding of client settlement needs and appropriate linkages to other services and lack of responsive and coordinated settlement and community services for Muslim families are creating great barriers, increasing isolation, and limiting community participation that need to be urgently addressed.
MCASS includes new Canadian children in our program offerings and provides services to support immigrant and refugee families in their daily lives and integration into their new city and country.
