Social Service Worker Program at Centennial College
Rana Selmawi
Rana Selmawi is a Social Service Worker student at Centennial College. She immigrated to Canada four years ago from Syria and she studied accounting back in Syria. She attended a training course and obtained a Certificate in Business Communication and Canadian Workplace Culture at the Woodgreen Agency.
She volunteered at the Woodgreen Community Service Agency as tax clerk and customer service representative. Working at Woodgreen, as a future social service student, she was helping people who needed housing and professional training for newcomers to settle into the community. Back home in Syria, she worked with kids as a tutor for the Arabic language and basic math skills. That is why she decided to study social work at Centennial College. As a newcomer herself, she understands the struggle of starting in a new place, and she wants to assist people to reach their goals as a part of her future career.
She hopes that through the work at MCASS she will assist and inspire families and newcomers in the community and she wants to continue to excel her skills to become a future Social Worker!
