Dur-e-Shehwar
I am a dedicated healthcare professional with a robust background in clinical medicine, healthcare administration, and community outreach. Holding a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Karachi University, I have honed my diverse skill set through various roles in Canada and Pakistan. My expertise includes telemedicine, patient care, and medical administration, enhanced by certifications in phlebotomy, immunization, and First Aid & CPR/AED.
Currently, as a Ward Clerk at Mount Sinai Hospital, I oversee patient admissions, discharges, and electronic medical records, while supporting the General Medicine and Cardiology departments. In my previous role as a Healthcare Navigator, I developed outreach plans to educate and advocate for colorectal cancer prevention among marginalized communities.
My telemedicine experience during the COVID-19 pandemic involved providing virtual consultations, which improved patient outcomes through effective communication and treatment. I have also supported low-income patients in Saudi Arabia and managed diverse clinical and administrative tasks at family practice clinic in GTA.
Proficient in OSCAR, Epic, and Cerner EMR systems, I excel in medical terminology, physical examinations, and documentation. Bilingual in English and Urdu, I bring excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to every role. My volunteer work includes supporting surgical oncology at Toronto General Hospital, participating in the COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic, Islamic Circle of North America and mentoring young girls in Toronto through the “Being Me” program.
My commitment to community service and passion for healthcare aligns seamlessly with the mission and values of Muslim Children’s Aid and Support Services. I am inspired by their dedication to child protection and support for Muslim families in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Their vision of a just and equitable society with full participation of Canadian Muslims resonates with my desire to contribute to a healthy, inclusive, and welcoming community. I am particularly drawn to their social and anti-oppression framework, which uplifts Muslim families and individuals. By engaging in continuous learning and improvement, I aim to help ensure that our programs remain person-centered, results-oriented, and responsive to the community’s needs.
