DEI: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

At MCASS, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are not abstract concepts but lived values woven into the fabric of our mission since our founding in 2004.

Before DEI became a mainstream framework, we were already creating programs for diverse communities, especially those facing systemic inequities every day, including newcomer and refugee families from Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan, and beyond.

Our vision of “a just and equitable society” reflects our commitment to fostering belonging, preserving cultural and religious identity, and ensuring every child and family can thrive without compromise.

We apply this DEI stance by delivering person-centred, culturally specific, and trauma-informed programs that are inclusive to all, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

From Lives Rewritten supporting newcomer youth to Scarborough Simbas offering inclusive recreational opportunities, our services are designed to remove barriers and foster a safe, inclusive space for those historically marginalized by systemic Islamophobia and discrimination. Our programs are designed to address DEI gaps in current programming.

We partner with both Muslim and non-Muslim organizations, offer faith-sensitive mental health supports, advocate within child welfare systems, and engage in research and education to drive meaningful, equitable change. At MCASS, inclusion isn’t new, it’s how we’ve always worked.

To help others build similarly welcoming environments, we have also created 12 DEI-centered workshops and a comprehensive resource list to support institutions in embedding these values into their own work.
